Sitting on the eggs

Question
My female cockatiel just laid an egg and we had to move it to the nesting box. Now she won't sit on it... What is going on??

Answer
Amy,

I'm going to answer this question with a question!  Has the female been inside the nestbox to explore at all?  Often a female will become stimulated to nest elsewhere in the cage by the actions of the male.  The male has already been in the nestbox and changes the way he acts, but the female may have not yet explored the box.

You did the right thing; cockatiels may wait to sit on their eggs for a few days after the first one is laid, which makes it easier to care for the babies (the first two or three will hatch right around the same time).

Good luck!
