-----Question-----
Hey Lisa,
Long question for you.  I recently purchassed two beautiful horses and have been so excited to get that back from my childhood, although both horses were not broke in.  I have a highly regarded horseman in our area breaking them in as well as myself.  It's been a long time since I rode regularly and that was mostly bare back and with two loving horses.  I can't seem to get anything right with this trainer and I've so lost all confidence in myself, I've never been afraid of horses but find myself nervous and scared now what's wrong with me?  Is it in the training or what? I can't give up.  I want this so bad.  Please give me any suggestions.

Hi Edna,
The first thing I would do is fire this Trainer and find one that you can have a better relationship. They may be a great Trainer but if you two do not have a good relationship then you are only looking for trouble. If you feel comfortable then just tell her that your styles do not mesh and see if she can recommend anyone else. If that is not feasible then look around yourself. If I can be any future help please let me know.

Lisa

Thanks for your prompt reply.  Any suggestions on getting myself back to being confident and unafraid?

Answer
Hi Edna,
Is there a place where you can take lessons or someone who owns a very gentle horse that you can ride? I would also just go into the pasture or pen with your horse and read a book or listen to a radio. This will help you relax and will make your horses more trusting of you. Just take your time and do everything slowly with your horses. A good trainer will also help you regain your footing.
