Braking 11 year old horse

QUESTION: Hi my cousin has this stallion horse that is 11 years old and has not been broke. It hates humans all except me and I was wondering if you could give me some tips on how to brake it in a field. I don't have a pen for it yet. I want to train it to trick ride as we'll but first I need it broken.its a beautiful horse and  loves apples. It is a male. I hope you can help me.

ANSWER: Hello Audree-
It takes a lot of time and work as a horseman to be able to start horses, it also takes a lot of time and work to be good enough to work with stallions, stallions need your timing to be REALLY good. That being said, what you have going for you is time, you're  probably not in a rush since your guy is 11 years old!  There are a lot of great videos and books about colt starting and ground work with horses, if you are already able to handle the stallion comfortably you could work on your ground work until your tricks and everything else felt fabulous. Then you can make the choice to go to a colt starting clinic  (It may be tricky to get in with a stallion) or I would suggest sending him to a professional in your area with a good reputation. If you have plans for great tricks and circus good times I think it would be worth your while to get him started professionally and then you can take him to the next level when he comes home, hit the ground running.

QUESTION: Ok so can u help me on getting it to where we can put a saddle on it and ride it???? I don't want to take him to a clinic but I might have to but can u just give me some tips on braking him. Except I don't have a round pen build yet so he is in a field and that's where I want to train him...any tips or ideas???

I wish I lived in your area- I would come over and help you get started! You are going to need help! If I could teach you to have great feel and timing and be able to start a colt in an email I would be  stay at home millionaire sending emails to people all over the world. Surgeons can't explain how to remove an appendix in an email- they go to school for that. Horses are no different. Start your learning with books and videos, audit every clinic that comes within a 100 miles of you, and most of all- BE CAREFUL! You seem really hungry to do this yourself, your drive mixed with patience, learning and study and you'll be unstoppable!
