mare with baby and a new horse

i have a mare that just had a baby mule he's about three weeks old.Some one just gave us a horse and i was wondering how she'll react and what we need to do.

Hi Scott;

Well, it can go really good or it could go really bad.  The mother mule is likely going to be very protective of the baby and might seriously injure the horse, or everyone could get along just fine.  

I would start by keeping them separate and let them become acquainted with each other over a stall wall or a safe fence.

Then, after the baby has been weaned, if they've been amicable to that point being beside each other, then you could try and put them together.
