Question
HI, I recently purchase a mt. horse, when i got a vet check he said the hips were loose and horse wasnt sound, The person i bought from said mt horses have such loose hips,[gaited horses ]. And stakes her reputation the horse is sound. I have ridden horse, seems ok has great disposition. But he stands at times with rear legs crossed, and usually always leans on one or the other,What would be your opinion, Thanks Tim

Answer
Dear Tim:
The purpose of having a vet check is to consult with a professional equine practitioner in order to assist you in making your purchase. It appears as though you have placed more stake in the seller's opinion than the vet's. From what you describe - I think your vet was correct and personally, while I might consult a second vet in order to see if he/she supports a diagnosis, I would never purchase a horse that had been found to be unsound in the pre-purch examination.
Try to put this into the perspective of buying a car. If you hired a mechanic to look a a car for you, and he told you the engine was shot but the seller told you it was fine... see where I'm going with this?
I would see if the seller would consider taking the horse back.
