Jumping height

Question
I have a 6yrold Paint mare, that is capable of jumping 4+ with rider.  I don't want to push her, but I'm starting showing again this season and am wondering if 2'9-3'0 would be too much for her.  I showed last season at local shows and did the 2'6-2'9, which we did well in.  I just wanted some opinions on if this would be too much, too young.  She's only jumped once a week, unless we're showing.  Then we just school at the show and jump there.  I try to work as much flat work/dressage as possible to get her working better and more balanced.

Answer
Hello Christina,

No, I don't think you would be pushing her to go even uip to 3'3" or 3'6".  At six, she should be maturing. Take her up slowly and observe her carefully. If she shows signs of being overfaced, then bring her down again to a comfortable height.

Happy jumping,
Dorothy
