rear shoeing problem

Question
My daughter's  TWH Jojo is having a problem with his rear feet.  He was shoed two weeks ago and I have had the farrier back to look at him and called him again this weekend.  He feels it is a muscle strain, but I put him on bute for a few days and used linament and he still walked the same way.  He does not appear to be in pain.  He has no hot spots on his legs.  When I watch him walk up the road he is not setting his foot down level.  It looks to me like the outside toe is longer than the inside.  He is actually almost crossing his back feet as he walks.  Should his toe be angled like that or should it be level?  I feel frustrated because I think this is a trimming/shoeing issue and the farrier thinks it is a muscle issue.  Jojo had laminitus two years ago so we have kept him shod since then.  He appears happy and healthy other than being "off"  with his back feet.

Answer
Hello Wanda,
I would LOVE to see a picture of his hinds taken from the side and from the back, as well as a short video (if you can) to see what you mean by his walking. You can send this to my E-mail at jnksize@comcast.net.
I will be happy to give you my view of what is going on with JoJo. Has he always walked this way or is what you see in his gait something new? Have you always used this farrier and has the horse always had rear shoes? I am just trying to find out whether something has changed in his hoof-care recently (with "recently" going back to about one year or so).
The pictures and a video would be IMMENSELY useful since it is hard to assess a change in gait or leg movement (especially with a gaited horse) when you don't know the history of the horse and have to review based on "what may be normal" for this horse and its conformation/hoof angles, etc.
Is JoJo shod or trimmed to enhance gait or is he flat-shod with physiological angles?

Thanks so much!
Christine
