I need a horse

Question
I'm looking for a horse to grow with. I'm 14 years old and going to be about 6 ft tall when I'm done growing. I want a horse who can handle that, and who can handle being outside year round in Maine. Could you help me with what breed to think about? I'm going to be riding English trails [canter, gallop, jump involved] and training it to do western later on in life so my grandmother can ride it. The horse would not have to be trained to do them yet, just a potential.

I was also wondering what breeds of horse tend to be most available because i only have about 800$ to spend on a partially trained horse.

Answer
Dear Robin,
There are quite a few horses for sale sites on the internet. Do a search for "horse classifieds by state/maine" In yahoo and you will come up with many. A $800 horse may be a stetch if it is even partially trained. I know here in wisconsin trained horses can go for 1,000+ dollars depending on breed and bloodlines.
I suggest you go for a Quarter horse, they are generally calm sensible horses with good heads. Quarter horses can deal with snow and are very versitile, and can be trained in western and english.
All horses will grow a winter coat to deal with the snow but at least make sure that you have a 3 sided shelter, preferably with a smaller entrance as wide as two horses so the wind will not get in to much, and he/she has a nice place to stay in the winter.
However some breeds like the thoroughbred or the arabian can be very tempermental and "Hot" horses, i do not reccomend then to a begginner. I have bred and riden alot of horses and if find them to be harder to handle.
