Question
I read your answer to the runny nose and move. I just bought a 3 year old from an auction and he was brought from a couple of hours away. He was fine the first two days but today I noticed he has a runny nose, he is coughing, and some of his nose is not totally clear but occasional yellow/green. I read that if that happened you should get them to a vet for antibiotics but then I also read to let them try to adjust to the new environment. How long should I wait since this is the first day of coughing and only a small amount of yellow/green from nose the rest is just clear liquid running from  his nose. ???? thanks for the info.

Answer
Keep an eye on him, as long as he is eating and drinking, let it work out, just like a cold for us, maybe 12 to 14 days max.  I give my guys a little extra carrots and apples when sick, maybe some extra grain or corn, and free acess to hay.  That way they can eat when they want and the carrots and apples will give extra vits to make them feel better.

At many shows and sales horses pick up something since so many people are looking and petting all the different horses, so it is easy for a horse to pick up something.

hope this helps,

Rick
