QuestionHi! I have a thorobred gelding that was given to me. He was a little under weight when I got him, but not bad. Now he's gotten worse mainly because my other horses we're eating his feed. I've since then moved him to the paddock behide my house so I can keep an eye on him because he also calics. He's only 3.5 yrs.old., He was an ex-race horse that didn't rate on the trac. I've tryed everything I can think of but it seems like he's still losing weight. He's been wormed. I give him flax seed w/every feeding he's getting feed 3x per day. He also gets vit. "c", "e"/ selinium, "hard keeper/weight gain", I try to keep him in plenty of hay. but just don't see any improvement in him. Can you help me? I live in Florida. Where the sand is abundnt. but he gets sand blasted every week. He hasn't caliced in a while. I need Help on the "weight gain".
AnswerHi!
Thanks for your question, but I'm sorry to say I can't be of a lot of help. Normally I would look into this question for you, but I am away on business currently so I don't have many resources.
Honestly, if you have him on all this stuff and he's still not gaining weight, and you see it being a big problem, I would talk to your vet. There might be something wrong with him. Then again, there might not be. But it's always a good idea to check just in case.
I would also check with a diet and nutrition expert. I belive there is one on all experts. Or even another expert are all qualified to help you.
Other than that I'm sorry to say I can't be of a lot of help. If I find anything out I will be sure to tell you.
I do apologize.
