horse behavior

I have a 6 yr old paint that is green broke.  He is nervous around people and is afraid of fences.  He tried to run his past owner into a tree.  I am working with this horse and might  end up owning him.  Any advice for the fence fear or the tree incident?

I have to wonder why you would consider owning a horse with these difficulties when there are perfectly good horses that need love and care and good homes.  If you do "end up" owning him, my only advice is that you hire an expert to "sort him out" before you even ride him.  And then she/he will have to show you how to do it yourself because horses are herd animals of the pecking order.  Just because one expert can deal with him, won't convince him that just anyone can.  He will try to best everyone.

My advice is not to own him and if you do...turn him over to an expert for a few months.
