Jumps in a pasture

Question
Hello,
I do three day eventing with my horses. We just moved into our own place, but we have limited space. Is it safe to put up some cross country jumps in their pasture (minus ditches and drops)? I have some green horses that I need to school as much as possibly before I take them to a trial. The closest course that I have found is over 2 hours away to school at:(
Thanks!

Answer
Hello Stefanie,

I don't think it would harm anything at all.  How many jumps you have depends on space available, but you won't be able to do any galloping or speed work. Perhaps you can find a race track (fair ground type) closeby that you could do the speed work on.  If you are still at Novice and Training, you won't need a lot of speed, but you will have to get out of the canter and into the gallop at Training.  There are several books on cross country obstacles that show you how to build them and all the sorts that you can easily incorporate into your space.

Good luck and have a safe and fun season.
