Jaw Deformation

Question
My horse just had a little filly and everything about her is healthy except for her top jaw is twisted. She can still nurse by herself but we are concerned about when her teeth grow in if she will still be able to pull and chew grass. Do you have any advice on this? Also I would like to know when horses stop nursing and start relying on grain, grass, hay, etc.?

Answer
Not sure about jaw issue, a vet would be better to evaluate this and give advice.  As for eating grass, a horse will start eating grass when they are ready and will keep nursing until one or one and a half if allowed and kept with mom.  Just make sure mom has hay and baby will eat when ready, probably in about 3 months or so.

You can get new born supplements for young horses, your feed store will have them, so read up them and decide if you want to provide them.
