Question
i have a 2 year  old filly that stands 15.3 hands high quarter horse/paint. she has never been touched , haltered , or anything. shes a very big filly and very demanding, has lots of attitude to her and very high strung when comes to catching other horses she wont let you she just chargers at you. i've had her since she was foaled she wasn't the average foal size she was big but geldings were mean to her. how can i catch her and halter her with out getting hurt or hurting her. O and she is very smart when comes to roping she knows how to get out of them we tried it once she didn't keep it on long. but she loves to bite and kick especially charging at people. so how do i catch her.

Answer
Marenda,

Well, you're going to have to gentle her, just like we do the Mustangs.  I would put her in  small pen, preferably a round pen but any pen no larger than 60 ft. acrpss will do.  Keep her in there alone, full time, while you are training her.  Start with basic round pen work to establish that she has to respect you.  Right now she doesn't.  If you are not familiar with round pen work then get some of the videos that are out by a number of different trainers.  This is not going to happen overnight; you have a number of issues to work on here, but you will be surprised at how quickly they come around once they start thinking with the right side of their brain.  Some horses take longer than others to do this but it does work.

You'll have to start at the beginning with her and establish a bond of trust and respect.  Getting her to accept a halter will be a big step.  She doesn't have good associations with one.  It's apparent that you must not have done much with her when she was little which is the ideal time to establish ground rules and manners.  So, you have to do that now.  Patience is the key here, and "reading" the horse to determine it's reactions.  I think you'll be surprised if you spend time with her everyday for 30 days that you will have a different horse.
