cribbing

Question
Amanda - thank you for taking a minute to answer my question.  I have a 14 yr paint gelding - was a cribber when I got him but other than he is all one could want for an equine friend.  I currently use the Miracle Collar which I lined with fleece.  I keep him where there is a board fence, therefore he wears it 24/7 - the owner will "tighten" if she sees him attempt to crib and she has caused sores before I lined it.  Now she wants me to try the electronic cribbing collar she saw advertised in a thoroughbred racing magazine.  Are you familiar with these - do you know of anyone that has used it.  How safe and what are the pros and cons. I have tried to research but I am not finding too many positive articles. Thank You!

Answer
hi kathy,
do not use the electric cribbing collar. it will do more harm then hood. the collar will cause sores and make the horse shy and sensitive around its head area. i had a cribber too. best barrel horse i had and she cribbed bad. just keep the miracle collar on him and if you want to you can put a hot wire around the top of the fencing. nothing to harsh just the wire polytape one. this will keep him from cribbing. if you have any other questions just ask and i will be more then happy to help.
