Horse falling over.

Question
Hello, I have a question about my 3 year old thoroughbred mare.. Yesterday she was all tacked up and we were ready to go out for a ride, when she stumbled on her back legs, and sort of sat down. She just sat there with her front legs stretched out, then she went to get up, and did the same thing all over again, only this time she fell over onto her side, and proceeded to lay down fully tacked for 4 minutes. There were 5 people around her trying to get up, but she just was just laying there looking at us. Once she finally got up, she ate and drank water and was bucking around in the turn out arena. Could this be a  young horse behavior problem? I was looking at wobblers syndrome and wondered about that...? It was so scary that she didn't even try to get up, or thrash around.. she just laid there with her saddle and bridle and martingale on.

Answer
Tracy, this sounds incredibly serious to me.  Too serious to be discussing here.  I highly recommend that this horse have a very thorough neuro exam to eliminate the possibility of conditions like the wobblers you mentioned or EPM.  It is highly unlikely that what you witnessed was a wall-eyed fit demonstration from a spoiled horse.  This must have been a really scary thing to go through.  I'd love to know what you find out from your vet's examination.

Good luck Tracy!
