Miniature horse hoofs

Question
I was wondering if miniature horses needed horse shoes, or just needed their hoofs clipped? And do you know how often the Farrier would have to come by?

Answer
HELLO MADDY...Thank you for your question.

Miniature horses generally need their hooves trimmed...not shod. Unless there is a congenital defect from birth or deformity that is causing stress or pain to the joints or limbs.
Glu-on shoes are very helpful in those regards. I have made shoes for problems in the past, but because of such a small area to nail to...Glu-on shoes are much safer in my opinion.

Baring any problems...and taking in the fact that the miniatures are NOT over-weight(which can cause the hooves to grow more rapidly)every 6 weeks would probably be a good schedule to be on. If you have any deformities or trying to correct something; then 4/5 weeks might be more helpful to
keep the problem under control.

Hope I've helped you and Thanks again...
