She lives in an open viv with a male horsefield tortoise and a guinea pig, has fresh fruit and vegetables every day also we put cuttle fish over there food. She has a heat mat to get her viv at the right temp and a basking light she went into hibernation for a little while. Hope this infomation is sufficient to help me withmy problem please let me no if here is anything else u need to no.

Answer
Closed eyes can be dehydration (a common issue), an infection, something in the eye, etc.

There are a couple comments that concern me- being kept with a guinea pig, fruit in the diet, and 'went into hibernation'.

Guinea pigs and Russian Tortoises come from very different places, have different habitat needs, and rodents like guinea pigs tend to gnaw on tortoises- they think they are giant chew toys. Also, sharing habitats often means that the dominate animals force the other animals into less desirable areas- such as out of humid hiding places.

Fruit should not be a big part of the diet- some strawberry, and occasional fruit treat should be about it. Otherwise, fruit is too sugary for Russians too often.

'Went into hibernation for a while' kind of worries me. Russians love and kind of need to hibernate, but it is not easy for us to do. They should not dip down and start to hibernate or get close to hibernating unless we an hibernate them for at least a month the right way. It is often a bad sign that they start to hibernate- too cold, too dry, etc.

I would try to offer a humid hide (just a plastic box with a hole in the side, some dampened moss in the bottom, and placed in a warm area) and soak the tortoise for about 15 minutes a day in warm water.
