Reeves turtle attacking red eard slider

Question
We have a 115 gal. set up for our turtles. We had the reeves and a painted turtle. Unfortunately the painted died and we replaced it with a red eared slider.  Reeves was not happy .  Would always bother slider when eating.  The other day the reeves grabbed onto the neck of the slider and would not let go.  They have now been separated.  Reeves temporarily in a 10 gal. tank.  What happened

Answer
Hey Peggy,

More than likely your Reeves turtle is not happy at all with the newcomer in the situation. Are the turtles approximately the same size? Sometimes if one is much smaller than the other they will fight over food.

Also, in general Red Ear Sliders are VERY aggressive towards other turtles. They fight on a regular basis and tend to find other turtles feet a handy chew toy.

Hopefully this will help you some,
