Question
Hi guys im having a bit of a problem with my baby Miss. Map turtle, heres the problem, I have three baby turtles:a Texas map, a RES, and this Miss map, both the RES and the T map are eating fine(feeding them Repto sticks and blood worms occasionaly) but the Miss map wont eat the repto sticks he'll only eat bloodworms, and now he's started nippping at my res and T map. He nips at their shells and other parts, and just a few min ago he nipped at my T map turtles tale and injured him, is this because he's not getting enough food?, I thought Miss maps made good companions with sliders and other maps? any suggestions? Thanks..

Answer
Cesar,   I would remove him from the tank and put him in a separate container and feed him. He is acting like a baby that feels threatened. Actually, I would do that with all them to keep your tank much cleaner. I hope you have these guys in at least a 55 gallon tank. Make sure they have enough room especially on their basking area. Try the baby turtle pellets with him. The way I feed my RES'S to make sure they get all their nutrients and calcium is I mix blanched greens (turnip, collard, spinach), white tuna, pellets, calcium and freeze it like lasagna. When it is almost frozen I cut it into small pieces for them. I also offer earthworms, and sometimes blood worms. You have to try different things make sure you give them a broad diet. My guy's eat everything carrots, broccoli. You can process or chop the stuff in a blender while they are small. Just remember feeding them in a separate container is great but, make sure the water is deep enough for them to swallow. If not they will choke since their tongues are fixed and they do not create saliva. Good Luck, Tina
