Question
Hello there,

My Rabbit that I have had for 6 years just died tonight. I noticed yesterday the rabbit was laying in the cat box painting a bit so I took her out and out her on a fresh clean towel with fresh water and food. I had her out last night running all over the bed and all and she looked fine. I gave her some water this morning but noticed she was laying on her side a bit kinda out of it. I went to Disney tonight and came in a noticed that the rabbit was like totally out of it and painting hard for breath. I picked her up and she was like trying a bit to be responsive but nothing. I started noticed she breathing harder and she died. I have noticed she had lost a lot of weight lately but didnt really notice due to Im around her everyday. The rabbit was 6 yrs old and was wondering any ideas why she might have died?

Joe

Answer
Dear Joe,

I am sorry about your loss.  Unfortunately, without a post mortem exam by a vet, it is impossible to know why she died.  It could be any of a hundred different things.

Weight loss can signify dehydration...or it can mean gradual wasting from renal disease or other health problem.  There are just too many possibilities for me to even make a guess.

I wish I could be of more help.  Please accept my condolences.
