Question
Hi, i have two female rabbits that are about two years old. After finding that there hutch was leaking i discovered that they had been chewing through the wood of the hutch and creating holes. I am getting a new hutch for them today but how can i prevent them from doing this again? could they be doing it out of boredom? Its hard to keep them entertained as they do not like being picked up (the one bears her teeth and tries to bite) any ideas on how i can get them more used to being handled or touched? or at there age is it to late to get them used to contact? any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Katie,
you can always try a little every day to handle them and soon enough they'll get used to the contact.
for the chewing problem, perhaps you can give them some pieces of natural wood in the cage, this way they can chew it all they want and not do any harm,I use driftwood.
Rabbits LOVE chewing on wood...if you can get another piece for them,I'm sure it will help. Along with a box to play with, cardboard will do...
good luck,Elizabeth
