Is licking genetic?

22 10:27:18

Question
Some rabbits like to lick both other rabbits and humans.  Will breeding 2 lickers result in lickers?

Answer
Dear Tom,

The grooming behavior and any rabbits predisposition to engage in it is probably partly genetic, as it has to do with personality as well as brain "wiring."  But there is no guarantee that breeding two "lickers" together will yield licking offspring, as the trait is probably polygenic (controlled by not one, but many genes) as well as environmentally influenced.  The more genes involved in any trait's expression, the more unpredictable its heritability.

Hope this helps.
