male rabbit eating females fur

Question
Hi, I have a spayed female dwarf rabbit and a male dwarf rabbit (not neutered)I plan on neutering the male soon. Currently I'm trying to bond them together and there is a lot of positive signs like laying next to each other and being relaxed. What I'm concerned about is when the male grooms the female, he does it really rough. He literally yanks the her fur out and starts eating it. I read that at the beginning the grooming might be rough but is it suppose to be this rough? and should I stop him? The female will let him do it a few times then it looks like he's yanking too hard and so she jumps away. Thank you

Answer
This does sound like a bonding that is going well.  Even the fur pulling or "barbering".  This is generally not a bad thing although can lead to fights, or bald patches that could get scratched easier.

There is not a lot of information on how to get a rabbit to stop barbering other than separation.  I know you don't want that, so I suggest providing more toys, free access hay, and neutering. I think when you get him neutered it will really help with the barbering because it is usually a dominance issue.  Most of the time dominance type things will go away or lessen once they aren't at the mercy of their hormones.

I think your doing a good job so far
and
Good Luck
