Rabbit with lump near chin

Question
I have a four-year-old mini rex buck. Just a couple hours ago, I discovered a lump near his chin. It's about the size of an M&M, somewhat flattened, smooth, firm, and moves with his skin. I could swear this wasn't even there yesterday, because I always pet his chin and face because he likes being rubbed there, but I could be wrong.

I'm taking him to the vet asap, but in the meanwhile I'm REALLY worried and upset. I'm afraid he's going to die.

What do you think it is?

Answer
Hi,

I wouldn't worry that he's going to die.  It's probably an abscess.  If you just saw it today and it hasn't been around long because you haven't felt it before, getting him in right away to have a vet determine what it is is the right and timely thing to do.  This is one reason why it is good to rub along the cheeks and such - not only because they like it but you can check for abnormalities.  Just make sure your hands are clean.

And go to a good rabbit vet, not all are.  If you need to ever find one and/or don't like the vet you wind up going to go here:

to find a House Rabbit Society recommended vet near you.
