Question
What is the smallest pig? And are they a good pet?

Answer
All pot-bellied pigs are small compared to their farm hog cousins. The average pot-bellied pig weighs about 125 lb and about the size of a medium dog. But some grow quite large, 250 lbs or so. And some remain around 90 lb.

Some breeders claim their pigs are very small - rescues and sanctuaries are filled with normal sized pig that were supposed to be very small!

Pet pigs require a LOT of work. They are NOT a good house pet for most people. Pigs have the intelligence and emotional level of a three year old human. They need consistent guidance, throw temper tantrums and can be very destructive. Pigs kept as house pets but raised poorly can become aggressive towards their owners. This is not the pigs fault - the pig behaves the way it was taught to behave.

Two or three pigs kept together in a cozy barn with a comfortable pen make great pets. But one pig left alone in a barn or pen will be lonely and possibly unsocial.
