Your city hall will have a copy of the zoning regulations. These rules are available to the public, although there may be a fee. It's worth it to pay the fee and get the ordinance in writing. A written document stands up in court, but what someone says over the phone is meaningless. If the desk clerk can't help you, ask to to talk to the zoning inspector or that persons assistant.

Condominium and homeowners association rules are just as binding as any law, and often place restrictions on pets. So if your residence is part of an association be sure to check those rules, too.
