Question
hi....currently got a piglet that was the last in the litter and the lady just gave her to me (i have 6 others at home....2 indoor)...was supposed 2 be a little girl....once she was socialized i was holding her on my lap rubbing her belly one night and realized she has 2 very very tiny testicles...they are lower than your normal piglet boars would be....she does not have a penis...or belly button...lol...as some say....and does have a smooth belly and a very tiny vulva....what should i do?  should he/she or whatever be neutered...left as is?  im confused...i've had many babies with nothing ever like this....she is also very very very tiny....about 2##....she was born  july 19th....so she is 7wks?...if my calculations are correct....she was taken from mom at like 3days old tho...i do not kno why....and then pan fed goats milk....she has severe runs when i got her and now poop is solid...and is eating solid food.  ive had her about 3-4wks.....the lady just did not want 2 do pigs ne longer and was getting rid of everything....i've done babies so i took her...now im confused....help!  thanks!

Answer
I've never heard of a hermaphrodite (possessing both male & female organs) pig before. But anything is possible.

Two pounds is VERY tiny for a 7 week old piglet, healthy pot-bellied piglets should gain about 1 lb per week. I think this baby really needs to see a vet.

The unusual anatomy may not be what it seems. The bulges could be some sort of hernia or internal abscess. A hernia is where the intestines slip through a split in the muscle wall, and can be fatal. Fixing a hernia involves surgery, the vet puts the intestine back where it belongs and sews the gap shut. An internal abscess is an infection deep in the skin or even in the muscle. Fixing an abscess involves draining pussy liquids and removing any solids, keeping the wound clean, and giving antibiotics.
