rattie vet in sd

I live in Sioux Falls SD and wondered if there were any vets in the Sioux Falls or surrounding area that are good with rats. I went to one person who was recommended, and didn't handle him very well, was very rough, picked him up by the tail...felt like saying "Hey...he's not a THING!" Anyway, my rat still has wheezing after tx with baytril and the vet steered me away from amoxicillin as he said 25% of rats can have a deathly reaction. Then I read Rat Lady digest from Chico, CA who said they are taught that because that is how guinea pigs react, although rats react much differently. So.....he wanted me to use very expensive drops that were about $40, (which I'm ok spending if absolutely necessary) and I wondered if there were a vet that was a little better with the rats. Also, as an aside, what is your opinion of amoxicillin for rats? Thanks! Glad you are hear, and I'll pass your contact along to the rattie club I belong to out of minneapolis mn!

Rats can take amoxil just fine.  It is absolutely deadly to rabbits, however, so perhaps the vet is getting confused with his exotic species!!

I need to know what states you are nearest as you may have to cross state line for an exotic vet! KEEP WARM!
