Rat Mites - DE?

Question
Can diatomaceous earth be used topically on rats to treat for mites. I would rather not use chemicals, but want to be sure it is safe. Thanks!

Answer
Is this medical grade diatomaceous earth?

I would not use it if it is a powder form. Rats should not be subjected to powders or sprays due to their very fragile lungs and the fact they are very prone to respiratory infections to the point their lungs can become scarred.

You can try rubbing the rat with olive oil...some people swear by it. I have no problem using kitten strength revolution. It may be a chemical, but it is effective in treating mites, who, if not properly controlled, can cause skin infections and anemia to the point of unwanted complications.
