Question
I take in homeless rats and mice, have 2 adorable female rats, would like to put them into my large 3 story cage with ladders, etc. However, it needs to be painted. What paint do you recommend? Kelly

Answer

In general, look for paints which:
- do not contain lead, zinc or chromate
- are "high adhesion", formulated to bond with the metal surface
- are hard-wearing
- are fast drying

Best bet would be to read the label and be sure it is CHILD SAFE, non toxic. Never paint anything in the same room as the rats or mice, which I am sure you know already. Give the cage plenty of time to dry or "cure"!

I have a double ferret nation that I left behind in Florida. I tried to sell it on Craigs list but for some odd reason, nobody has called. I paid over $230 for it, used it for just 5 months, and moved with my three boys and had to get them another cage and the ferret nation is just sitting at my sisters house collecting dust.  If I dont find a buyer soon I am going to donate it to a shelter or home where people rescue small exotic mammals and if I STILL do not have any luck, even a shelter for cats and dogs. Kittens and tiny puppies would even fare well in that ferret nation.  If you happen to live anywhere near Cape Coral Florida, please let me know!!!
