African Gray & E-collar

Question
Hello,
I've been struggling with my African Gray, Coco, for almost two months now because of her feather picking. she has practically left herself without a tail, and has now moved on to her chest and her back area and I don't know what else to do. I took her to the vet and all the tests came back negative. I've tried all kinds of sprays, toys, books, but I haven't had any result the picking just continues. The only time I'm not home is when I'm at school and the longest I'm away if just 2-3 hours so I don't see how it can be lack of attention because I focus on her all day long. I have been trying to look for a place to get her an elizabethan collar since she is showing small signs of mutilation now as well. The vet says he's never used e-collars on birds and doesn't have any. I have searched online and I haven't had any success; when i thought I found one, I received an e-mail the next day thanking me for my purchase but that the size I ordered had been discontinued. Do you know where I can find one?

Answer
I would recomend finding an avian vet near you that does have experience with using these types of collars on birds. It would be strongly adviced to have the bird's collar fit and put on by an avian vet. (1) because it should be done by an experienced professional... since it it much more difficult for birds than for dogs or cats and 2) because your bird might distrust you afterwards if you do this to her)....

You can find other avian vets in your area at the following websites (or ask your current vet for a recomendation):

www.aav.org

or

I hope this helps.
