Should I get a friend for my budgie?

Question
Hi, I was just wondering if I should get another budgie. I have had my budgie Rocko for about 6 months and he is about 9 months old. I am at high school all week, and the only other person home is my mom, who doesn't really want to spend time with him. He is pretty tame, and he will sit on your shoulder. He doesn't like to come out his cage though. His cage is really big, and he just seems to sit there looking lonely. Should I get another one? If I did, would I just stick it in the cage with him? I only didn't get 2 budgies in the first place because I didn't have enough money at the time. Well, thanks for your time.

Answer
Yes he'd like a friend another male, or a female would be fine. But you need another cage you must never place a new animal with your resident animal right away in th case of birds the new bird can carry an illness that is not harming it but can make your other bird Very sick. You need another cage and whole new set of suppies and place the other cage in a seperate room from your resident bird for at lest 4-6 weeks to see if any illness comes up in the new bird then you can place the cages side by side and let them play out of cage for a week or two before caging them together. You must wash your hands with antibactirial soap between touching birds as well....until yuor ure the new one is not sick.
