Question

mice
So a week or two ago I bought a mouse from a petstore in the mall here in my home town. I bought him on a Friday and fell in love with him. Well I brought him in his cage to my friends house with me and he escaped on Sunday morning while we were asleep. So Sunday afternoon i went to a DIFFERENT pet store and bought another mouse. He was fine when i first bought him, besides the fact he bit the palm of my hand a lot. He stopped that quick though. But Sunday night my friend called me and said my old mouse had returned and she had him for me. Well as soon as i brought my old mouse home, his name is mousie man, the new mouse (pocket is his name), turned all weird. He has like... nervous twitches almost and squeaks every time he twitches. It's almost like hes sneezing! But he does it all the time now. Is this normal for a mouse? Because mousie doesn't do anything like that...
And another question, once i got mousie back i checked him out to make sure nothing was wrong and his back right foot is kind of swollen and a little reddish purplish. He's walking on it completely normal though, what is this about??
Thanks for your help!,
Nikki

Answer
Are they both male? It could be normal mouse behavior (mice can be very vocal when playing/mating/determining dominance), or it could signal a problem such as pain from his injured foot or an illness. If he has an injury it would be best to have a vet look at him and make sure his foot is not broken. I had a rat who completely severed the bones in his foot, and it was sliced wide open, and despite his injury still put weight on it. He recovered fine after antibiotics and being placed in a tank and solitary confinement. His limited activity helped him heal a lot faster. He could also have done neurological damage while he was out and about. If both mice are male please watch them for signs of aggression, as males can and will fight.
