Question
Iv'e noticed that the mice in my house have been making a
buzzing for vibrating sound. why do they do this?

Answer
Hi Anthony,

Could it be their tails?  Sometimes when mice want to show aggression (when playing gets too rough, or when one mouse is being too dominant and is harassing the others), they'll vibrate their tails very quickly, usually against something so that it makes a rattling, buzzing sound.  Try and watch them when they make the noise to see if anyone is doing this.

If it's coming from the mice themselves when they aren't doing anything unusual, could it be a result of their breathing?  Sometimes the sound a sick mouse makes when breathing is described as a rattling noise.  If this is the case they could be sick and need antibiotics, or may have been sick in the past and still have respiratory damage that would stay with them.

Without knowing a little bit more it's tough to say what the cause of the buzzing is.  Are these pet mice, or pests?

If you're still not certain what's causing it, feel free to write back with more details and we'll figure it out!
