QuestionThank you so much for your response!what are some healthy green leaf veggies I can give him? That I can purchase at the store? I gave him the dark leaf part of romaine lettuce so far.is there a way to avoid this constipation in the future? He does not eat much hay, even though I offer him plenty. He has never been much of an hay eater.
Thanks Callie
AnswerHi Callie
Romaine lettuce is only good in tiny amounts as it contains laudunum but you can feed any of the greens listed here in larger amounts....
broccoli
spring cabbage ( dark green stuff )
spinach
winter cabbage ( white / pale green )
grass
cauliflower leaves
chickweed
dandelion flowers, stalks and leaves
plantain
Also did you know guinea pigs can eat any of the following in small amounts of course :
apple and apple peel but NOT PIPS
honeydew melon ( big yellow thing )
water melon
grapes
tangerines
banana ( not the skin )
oranges
carrots
red, green or yellow peppers ( sweet peppers not chilli peppers )
parsley
thyme
celery
salad lettuces in very small amounts
As with all fruit and veg, wash thoroughly and make sure its fairly dry before feeding.
With fruit n veg, never feed your piggies food that YOU would not eat either ( rotting, maggotty etc )
Best of luck hun xxx
