older ferret or young?

Question
Hi, we have recently brought a little 8 month old neutered ferret, named oscar into our lives and enjoy every moment of his quirky little personality and cuddles! at the moment he is sleeping in a 3 storey cage by himself whilst we sleep, but spends the majority of his day in our company, playing, eating, cuddles, sleeping, etc. However, we are concerned that he might be lonely when we place him back in his cage during the night so we would love to be able to get him a friend he can hopefully bond with. Today, we visited a rescue shelter and 2 stood out to us but we would only like to bring one of them home. We handled the 2 - 1 hob, named elliot who was huge! who bit our faces! but still, didnt put us off from wanting him to join our family (he was about 3 years old) and another, a jill, named indigo who was roughly about the same age as oscar (8 months old). she was a complete darling. We are finding it very difficult to choose which one to bring home so we are trying to decide one which one would be best suited to oscar. Would it be better to get the jill who is more or less the same size and age as our oscar, or the hob, elliot, who is much older and much, much, bigger??? Any advice given will be greatly appreciated! Thank You, deb & mark.

Answer
Here is my 1 warning - watch out for ferret math!  Honestly I don't think it matters male or female or size.  I have 10 (see what I mean about ferret math...1 needs a friend, once you have 2, whats 2 more....) that range in size from a little over a pound to almost 41/2 pounds.  We have 3 females and 7 males but that was just coincidence.  Also all from shelters or that someone gave to us so we didn't pick gender or anything else.  The important thing is how you introduce them.  The best way is to simply place them in the cage together or in a ferret safe room and let them meet.  They may fight, but don't worry too much and don't break them up since that can make it worse.  They may be just fine!  DO make sure you have the new ferret checked out and allow for a quarantine period, just to be safe.  I say, get them both, but thats just me!
