Re-house training...

Question
We recently got our Rat Terrier puppy, now 7 months old, back from the vet two days ago.  She stayed at the vet hospital for two nights (due to something she ate, the vet believes it caused nuerological problems, but is still unsure of what it was she consumed).  She was completely house trained for about a month before we brought her to the vet, however now she is not.  We crate train her and she has never had an accident in her crate.  Now, I came home and she urinated in it.  She is also finding it acceptable to urinate in the house as well.  I was just wondering how I can get her back to being house-trained, and also stop urinating in her crate as well.  Thank you for your time!

Answer
Jamie, whatever happened to her could very well have resulted in her inability to control her bladder. OR, she could have simply gotten used to going in her cage while she was at the vet's because she had no other choice.

How large is her crate? You may have to make it a little smaller until she has re-learned not to potty in it, if it's too big. Is there any chance that someone can come and take her out around lunch, if you work all day? She may just need to do this for a week or so, until she 'remembers' that she's not supposed to potty in her crate.

When she's loose in the house, try to keep her confined to the room you're in, so that if she starts to go potty on the floor, you can immediately scold her and get her outside.
