Dogs chasing cattle

Question
Hi,  our dogs are cattle dog crosses but unfortunately have to be tied up most of the day.  When we do let them off for a run, they almost inevitably end up chasing either our cattle or the neighbours cattle.  I know it is in their nature but it is making the neighbours cranky.  Is there anything we can do??

Answer
You could try training them to herd you own cattle, or get them some ducks to herd. See if there is a herding club near you that you could join. Alternatively, you could get them an e-collar and give them a shock when they head over to the cattle. A friend of mine used a gun (just the noise, she didn't shoot the dogs!) whenever his dog took off after his horses and that worked well because his dog didn't like the sound of gunshots.
