My dog is licking and scratching walls

I have a 6 year old black lab mix of terrier and lab. Lately i have found scratch marks on my wall over my bed some over an inch deep. I have also noticed him licking the wall itself. I do leave him in my room with the door shut when i go to sleep but i noticed the scratches at my second house in which are very shallow but also I leave him in there when i sleep but I noticed him licking the wall during the day when the door was open. He has been licking and scratching his back right over his butt for a long time and now seems that the skin underneath the fur is rough and not normal. Also my dog has problems with stench. He stinks up only days after taking a bath. He has dug in my back yard in over two places. He has gotten better with the stench but it is coming back. I was just wondering if you would have any idea what might be wrong or any suggestions that would help me. Thank you

This is either a fungal skin infection,or hypothyroidism,both cause the dog to itch and to smell bad,as well as effecting the fur falling out ect Both have to be diagnosed by a vet

It does sound more like hypothyroidism,which is VERY common,but easy to treat,but the dog has to stay on pills for the rest of his life
