Running with dogs

Question
Hello! I have two puppies, a black lab and a golden retriever.  They are both 4 months old (three days apart).  I play with them a lot and walk them pretty consistently (right now one of them has a slight limp we are getting checked out tonight, so our walking has been on a pause as they despise being seperated).  I know it's not wise to do too much at a young age (our walks are never more than 20 minutes, usually more like 10-15--I sometimes run like 30 seconds with them for fun).  I know their hips need to been fully grown before really running with them, so I'd like to know about what age that is.  I really love running, and I know both these breeds tend to like it too, so I'm excited, but I don't want to get ahead of myself. I have heard one year, and I have also hear two years.  I also know that running needs to be built up, the same way it needs to be in humans.  What age, and how much do you think I can start with?  Also, do you think I can run with them together?  Like I said, they really don't like being apart.  I have researched and asked around some, but I'd like to hear what you have to say as well.  Thank you for your time!!

Answer
Hello and thank you for your questions, Those are two wonderful breeds to own I have a 3 year old female labrador retreiver my friend has a 3 year old golden ret./labX female also they were best friends before but When I moved they become distant and now would likely fight if left alone....buy my labs happy shes got a 2 year old male jack russell terrier and a under one year old female boston terrier to play with! lol. I don't reccomend running either until 12 months of age I can remember running my lab for the first time at 1 year old up and down the block to tire her out and to exercise her and me. Yes running them together is possible I do sometimes run my jack russell and lab together but I only do it up and down and alley for exercise more for me then them as they wreale everyday and run in the large yard we have...my boston terrier isnt ment for running she doesnt care for jogging even which is perfectly fine. I think you could start with ten minute sesions once or twice a day at most then owrk up to 15 minutes 20 minutes and so forth...you'd need to break sometimes even thou they do love running everyone looses there breath sometimes I guess and you'll know to stop when the dogs start to slow down or lag behind. Best of luck with your new pups.
