Raw Skin? Harness? Choker?

Question
Eleanor our 1 year old JRT seems to have very sensitive skin.  Is this normal for a JRT?  We do not have our yard fenced in yet so she is on a leash and when she runs out she just about chokes herself.  We thought it was her collar causing the rash/horrible red marks but maybe it is the choker?  I question if we should even be using a choker on such a small dog.  I have MANY questions but I will stick to this one for now!  Thanks so much!  Renee in NY.

Answer
Hello...your using a choke chain collar on a Jack russell terrier? This is a very bad idea and the dog can damage its eshopogas from uplling while wearing a choker collar. THe safest thing I can reccomend for a Jack is a body harrness or a four point harrness they are sometimes called they go under the front legs and around the neck. A comforty wrap harrness would be even better as it goes under both front legs and snaps on the shoulders so doesnt put any pressur on the neck at all....if you can find one of these it would be a better choice then another type. Head halters in my experiance with my jack russell terrier lead to rubbing his nose on the cement during our walk and a bloody nose so it went back right away. Jacks are indeed known to have skin issues my own 2 year old neutered male jack russell terrier has allergies.
