QuestionWe adopted what appears to be a White German Shepherd with possibly some Husky in him. Do you know anything about WGS. I know they are not recognized by AKC. We got him at 18 months. He is now 2 years old. The family who had him was neglectful, but not abusive in any way. He is great with kids but appears to have OCD, a mild hearing loss, and barks like crazy...especially at cats. We have a female Australian Shepherd who is about the same age. They seem to get along well most of the time. The hardest part is walking him. If he sees a cat, he goes crazy. Any help would be appreciated.
AnswerNot much I can help with on the rest, but a head collar might help with the walking. The leading brands are Promise, Haltie, and Gentle Leader. They have a strap going around the dogs nose looking something like a muzzle. They work by pulling the dogs head around. No other way gives you such great control with so little force. The prong collar is now a
dangerous relic of value only for its macho looks. Do not consider using one
without hands on instruction from somebody with plenty of experience with them.
