Question
We got Max (Male) as puppy from Germany, he is now 6 month's old, he has been away for training for the last 2 weeks. My husband was the one to take him and pick him up.  The trainer discouraged us from visiting with him while in training, although I did ask all the specific question I thought I needed too, but somehow now that he is back I see no difference in his behaviour while walking him, he still pulls and tries to drag me, I have decided not to walk him anymore because of this, what else can I do>  He seems fine with my husband but not me! We both treat him with lots of love and care very much for him, also upon his return he has been peeing inside the house! Which we had already broken him out that habit before he went to training!  Any answer as to why this may be?  Also, is there a home remdy to help with his teething? I know he is pain over loosing teeth and his gums are a bit swollen, we have plenty of good chewing toys and bones, but I would like to help him relive some of this pain!  Thank you for any answers you may have.  Nina

Answer
I don't sanction sending a dog away to a trainer. It's usually very stressful and confusing for the dog. Then the owner's cues, no matter how well informed they are by the trainer are never going to be the same as the trainers. It's impossible and a bad situation all the way around. I would also never leave my dog anywhere that would not allow me to visit anytime, anywhere, anyway that I wanted. Your dog is trained to work with the trainer, not with you. Your dog has been completely brainwashed to behave as  he did with the trainer and in his living situation. You will have to go back to doing what you did before when you originally potty trained him. Whether that was crate training or whatever. He will totally have to readjust to your living situation. As for love that is wonderful, but do remember that dogs should earn love. Or else they see that as a form of submission.  Type alpha boot camp into your web browser, there you will find the tools that you need to establish and maintain pack order in your home. Buy your dog a halti , which is a form of collar that uses a different method to teach rather than the old snatch and jerk used by most trainers.  Anybody can walk a dog on a halti once the dog gets used it it and he will NOT pull you. You and your husband need to take turns power walking your puppy for twenty minutes a day at least once per day at HEEL. Get him enrolled in an obedience class that YOU take him to. The hour once per week for six weeks or so will change both of your lives. The experience is irreplaceable. Your dog needs plenty of chew toys, toys stuffed with treats and smart toys, changed out every few days so that he doesn't get bored. German bred shepherds, particularly if they are DDR are higher drive, smarter and with stronger herding instincts than American bred dogs. He will need a job or he will make one. Your dog needs the interaction and bonding with YOU as his owners , not with a stranger who spent two weeks (TWO WEEKS???) working with him.
Well, I would say don't get me on my soap box but too late LOL.
Let me know how he does. And remember lots  of positive reinforcement and NO negative.
