Problem

i have a 9 month old male GSD....whenever i bring him in from outside i rub him
for awhile and i notice his red penis is sticking out in FULL FORCE....i then back
away from him and he begins humping the air!! after humping the air he begins
crying...he then licks his penis until he stops crying and humping the air....what
is this? does he have a problem a disease?

Hi

Be assured that there is nothing wrong with your dog.  When you are rubbing/petting him on the flanks he is getting stimulated.  Your dog is normal 9 mos old BOY!  He doesn't really know what to do so he humps the air, realizes his lipstick is out of the case so has to lick it, which excites him even more etc.  So I would just ease up on the rubbing, perhaps focus on his head and neck.   This should lessen his stimulation.   I had dogs that would actually get so excited from being brushed on their flanks that they ejaculated right on the grooming table.   Very messy.   

Oh and if you notice a swelling at the base of the penis when he is excited that is normal too.
