Question
i have a 7 month old german shepherd. i was to have him neuterd when he was 6 months old, but i heard that you should not neuter until yhey are 2 yrs old because they are not fully developed yet and it might stop their growth. he is a male, and his ears are still somewhat floopy. i don't want to stop his poetential growth.is there any truth to this?   thank you

Answer
Maybe.  At least one of the studies supporting later neutering admits the science behind it is weak.  What they claim is the dog ends up slightly taller and more slender.  One factor those supporting later neutering like to gloss over is the desperate attempts to get loose if a female comes in season up wind.  One day he may sail over the fence or bolt out the door without warning.  Such adventures are highly dangerous.

What does your vet say?  In some cases, where vets disagree, I often suggest going along with what yours wants.
