Question
hi. i have a 12 week old female German shepherd pup. i am currently feeding her 2 tins of winalot puppy in jelly  4 times a day with a handful of bakers complete puppy. i am finding she is still hungry. we have tried her on dry food on its own but she doesn't like it. what would you recommend we feed her?

Answer
I would persist with the dry food.  She might have to go a day or 2 before she would go ahead and eat it.  Dry foods have several advantages to both the dog and owner.  To the extent that the dog chews the dry food, it cleans the teeth and exercises the jaws.  It is also easier to measure out just what the dog needs.  For now, a cup of dry at each of 3 feedings a day should be good.  In a few weeks, you could cut back to 2 meals a day.  Young Shepherds tend to keep themselves thin.  As long as she will eat it, go ahead and feed her whatever it takes to keep her ribs from showing.  What she doesn't eat, take up after 15 minutes.

I am not as negative about Bakers as many, but any one of the other common brands of dry puppy chow might be better.  Any changes in diet you make should be spread out over a week feeding more and more of the new until it is all of the new.
