Thinking of getting a young adult cocker

Question
Dolores I love the answers you are giving.
I am used to having dogs when I lived in the country. I have trained rescue
dogs for re homing and identified puppies with potential to be guide dogs. So
I feel confident about how I relate to dogs and am fully aware of the
importance of exercise, training and attention.
So, but  I do need your help.
I now live in a city. I have an apartment, open plan mainly. I work 30 hours a
week out of the house. I need to know that if I get a dog I can give it a happy,
rewarding, stimulating home.
Plus side, I would exercise the dog for an hour a day and then a smaller
outing of half an hour with much longer walks on the Fridays and weekends,
out in countryside and off leash - rain or shine. i would get in a dog walker
on my day that is the longest and I have flexibility to work from home quite
often.
When not at work, I'd keep the dog with me - all my dogs have been well
socialised and have travelled with me when I go on holiday and always come
out with me when I see friends.
I have seen two cockers at the dog rescue shelter - I always get rescue dogs.
One is eight months the other one year old.
I very want to take one of them but I need your advice. Given the fact that any
dog I have would be alone for more than five hours, say about three times a
week, with the run of the apartment - am I being fair? also, is what I offer
worse than the dog pound.....
Heyyulp. Its something I have been wrestling with for months. any ideas?
Thanks,
Clemence

Answer
The short answer is YES...get the dog ! :)  You're a fabulous owner and my own dogs are often alone for that length of time.

The longer answer is YES...get the dog !  In fact, take both of them
and then they'll have company.  My goodness, this sounds like doggie heaven and, like myself, you're an over-anxious owner :)

Stop wrestling with it - you'll be great and have a happy dog (or two dogs? :)

If there's anything else you'd like to chat about, do write.  I wish all my questions were happy ones like this.
