Question
I have a one month old boxer puppy that I've been taking care of for 3weeks. He was in pretty sad shape but is
Now over 3 lbs. From about 7oz.  I have started a soft gruel and still giving bottle. About how much and how often would he be eating. I don't want to over do it.  Also he is extremely wobbly in the back end.  I don't know much about boxers yet but am reading a lot. Already in love with the beastie.  Thank you. Leigh

Answer
A puppy that young should be feed as often as a newborn baby; every couple of hours.

The "formula" you should be feeding him is:

1-12 can evaporated milk (not condensed, and not whole milk either)
1-raw egg
1/4-1/2 teaspoon Kayro syrup (or any brand clear syrup)
1 cup whole, plain yogurt
4 ounces sterile or bottle water added

Blend all ingredients (except water) iun a blender. Do not froth.

Pour into a sealed container, sealed pitcher, or sealed gallon milk container and add 4-ounces sterile or bottled water and keep refrigerated.

You will need to warm in microwave or stove top before feeding in a baby bottle (remove nipple first while warming bottle). The temperature should be like it is for a newborn baby-- taking the coldness off and at least making it room temperature. However, his mom's milk is her body temperature, so a nice warm is good. Test on your inner arm for correct temperature, making sure it is not too warm or hot.

Puppy food mixture/mash:

Buy a good high-protein puppy food and put some in a sealed container with water. Let stand until it is soft. Mash with fork and spoon until it is a mashed potato consistency. You can add a little formula milk on it too and serve it to him at least every 4-5 hours and feed formula bottle to him every 2-3 hours in between.

He should not be wobbly at all. He is old enough to run and play.

If he continues being wobbly for more than another week, get him to your vet.

He must be de-wormed now anyway. The liquid worming medication is given orally (usually 1/2 cc) and marked on the calendar so you can give 2nd dosage in 3 weeks, and marked on the calendar to give 3rd dosage in 3 weeks from that date.

He will require his first series of vaccinations in a few weeks-- 6 weeks old. And the 2nd set of vaccinations soon after.

You need to make sure he has no neurological problem or spinal problems causing him to wobble.
