house training a 7 year old beagle

Question
My husband and my son have trialed beagles in the past.  Due to our son's busy schedule, they no longer have time to do this.  We have one beagle left that is kept in a kennel outside.  I hate having him alone in that kennel all the time.  I would like to bring him in to live in the house.  We already have 2 other dogs in the house.  He is a very well-trained and easy to handle hunting dog.  My husband has heard negative things about house training beagles after they have lived outside for so long.  He is 7 years old. What is your opinion on this?

Answer
Hello Mrs. Mizer
I have clients ask me that quite often. The beagle is one hard breed to train, but of course it can be done espically if he is well-trained and good hunting dog. At his age I don't see where it would be a problem taking him inside. Does it get along well with the other dogs? Socilization is always a good thing so he could use some time around other dogs. It may be hard for him at first to adapt to the living arrangement but he will they always do. You will have to watch to make sure he doesn't have accidents. Mainly when people say its hard to bring them in after living outside pertains to younger dogs, and much larger breeds. I would say it would be ok. I don't see any potential of him messing anything up espically if you say he is well trained it takes a lot for owners to say that. But keep in mind I have never seen him or his enviroment. I think he will do well I would keep a close eye on him. I feel that he will be more comfortable and you will be lowering his risk of artheritis. I hope this has helped is you have any more questions please feel free to ask! Best wishes and good luck!
